  • London, Ontario Canada (map)

Chrystal is an Anishinaabe kwe, founder of Blackbird Medicines, and a member of the Pikwàkanagàn First Nation. With a background as a Registered Social Services Worker, Indigenous counsellor, and educator, she brings a wealth of experience in supporting individuals through various life transitions. Her work is deeply rooted in Indigenous knowledge systems, emphasizing the importance of cultural practices in healing and grief support.

In this session, Chrystal will explore the multifaceted nature of grief experienced by doulas across different areas of practice—including birth, postpartum, abortion, fertility, loss, and end-of-life care. She will discuss how grief manifests in the doula’s role and offer insights into navigating these emotional landscapes without succumbing to burnout. Drawing from her Indigenous perspective, Chrystal will share traditional approaches to grief and mourning, highlighting the significance of community, ceremony, and ancestral teachings in the healing process.

Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how to honor their own grief, support their clients compassionately, and integrate self-care practices that sustain their vital work. This session promises to be a heartfelt exploration of the emotional complexities inherent in doula care, offering tools and perspectives to foster resilience and connection within the doula community.

Join us for this transformative conversation that acknowledges the emotional labor of doulas and celebrates the strength found in shared experiences and cultural wisdom.
